Golang Job Details

Automata is building a world-class company to disrupt the life science industry and empower scientists by making automation a reality for every lab.

We work with labs across the world to understand their specific workflows and needs and develop personalized solutions that range from diagnostic, and drug discovery to synthetic biology. This allows us to simplify common automation tasks, while also supporting more advanced paths for specialized workflows, in a fast, flexible, and cost-efficient way.

Why is this role important for Automata?

Automata’s mission is to empower scientists by making automation a reality in every lab.

We are obsessed with automation everywhere and this position is mostly about automating our infrastructure.

You would be the first dedicated SRE of the company with the mission to mature our CI/CD, productionalize the platform (metrics, alerts, fallbacks, resilience, security), improve existing systems and processes, define SLAs and SLOs, with the creativity to develop novel solutions to evolving challenges.

For this role, the objectives are:

  • Accountable for the uptime and reliability of the platform

  • On-call responsibilities in case of application/infrastructure emergencies

  • High focus on automating tasks and workflows to improve the efficiency of people and processes

  • Upgrading and maintaining CI/CD pipelines

  • Introducing/upgrading monitoring, alerting, resilience strategy, etc.

  • Build software and systems to manage platform infrastructure and applications

  • Measure and optimise system performance, with an eye toward pushing our capabilities forward, getting ahead of customer needs, and innovating to continually improve

  • Provide primary operational support and engineering for multiple distributed software applications

What it takes

Essential skills:

  • Infrastructure as code (Terraform, Ansible, etc.)

  • Configuration Management (containers, operations, observability)

  • AWS infrastructure (ECS, RDS)

  • Kafka

  • Datadog

  • Proactiveness

Desirable skills:

  • Golang, Python, SQL and NoSQL, IoT

  • Great communication skills/team player / teacher

  • Interest in developing no-code tools

You should feel aligned with our Software Principles:

Software principles:

  • Automate, automate, automate - we’re an automation company and hate doing things manually. We automate anything that can be automated, increasing process reliability, deployment velocity, development velocity and quality.

  • We help each other - We all own the product and better work happens when we work together. We share risks and improve the product to deliver value to our customers.

  • Keep it Simple - We avoid unnecessarily complicated code. We use off-the-shelf tools, technologies and libraries instead of writing it all ourselves. We prefer frequent, smaller releases over fewer, larger ones.

  • Just decide already - Done is better than perfect. We make decisions based on imperfect information and believe that making the wrong decision is better than making no decision at all.

  • Measure what you make - We live and breathe data. We instrument our code to track how it performs. We automate our testing so we know it works. We measure how our product behaves in the hands of our customers and use that data to inform what we do next.

  • Nothing Is Sacred - We regularly reflect on our product and our ways of working. Using our learnings we change our approach to delivery and our product.

What gets us excited?

We’re passionate about the future of Technology and Automation and our growing success is built upon like-minded individuals who share our passion.

We are excited about building a software platform that is used to maintain, control and monitor robotic workbenches. We're helping scientists find cures, map genomes, and diagnose illnesses by building the software they need to design, run and automate their experiments. You'll be helping us deliver the digital platform which lives on top of the hardware that we assemble/build.

If this sounds like a good fit and you have experience being a Lead DevOps/SRE/Platform Engineer you will love having the opportunity to build something that immediately adds value.

What is the Process?

  • Screening call with talent

  • Technical Task and personality assessment

  • F2F / workshop interview
